General Discussion / Re: Random Dothraki

Not as in 1861 Hrakkar ^^

The vocabulary already contains some insults. Some are "elegant" or typical Dothraki (as ifak walker)
Some are less classy (as govak fucker)

If I may add something about pronunciation, you have this video from Lajaki.

Dothraki Pronunciation

And if you work with dothraki->English dictionnary or with the vocab from the wiki, there is still the Ctrl+F key  ;)

Something like Qvaakat : to make a precise grammatical analysis/correction of a text/speech/translation.

And Ingsvelat : to be the elder of the keepers of the knowledge.    :P :P :P

Kind of fun though ;D

Hi, autre_temps (french nickname?)

You can start with the dialogues from the TV show.

season 1 :

season 2 :

Here is a link to the page of the wiki, where you can find the links to :
*a video of David presenting Dothraki language
* the 2 texts he reads in this video.      (the three last links)

I don't think there are others full texts in Dothraki, except from those translated or created here.

You can also search on the blog from David

Sunqan, your translation just got Qvaaked.  ;D

I'm still amazed by your precision and gramatical knowledge of this langage.

Here is the second part. Some of those word are not totally unknown from me, but once again, it's better preventing than healing, so.

na. corn bunting (a bird)                      Specific species of bird?

ni. hemp (material)                               I had strange translations for this one... a type of leaf, kind of illegal smoken when
                                                                                                                                                                                  dried... :-X

prop.n. The Arbor                                 Certainly a place in the books, which I didn't saw yet (only read half of the first one...)

n. yak                                                   Mooo?

na. herd of wild horses, "traffic"          modern, as in car driving?

jaqqa rhan
n. mercy men                                       as an executionner / fighter sparing his victim?  (man full of mercy, pity)

na. trader's guild, "company"              as "traffic" : company like firm, enterprise? (no, no, not the NCC-1701)

na. lark                                                joke?  (or, to keep on with the word just above : kaaaaaaane  ;D)

ni. eye-healer                                      slightly wild and uncivilized ophthalmologist?

ni. bow                                                the weapon, or the courtesy

ni. eating spree for a special taste     not a clue for this one...

ni. killing spree                                   not a clue for this one either...

ni. bladed writing                               I rarely write with a sharped pen...

And it's done!

47 pages over 84, so 56 % of the vocab is translated... It's going faster than I thought.

Hajas !

Thank you for those clarification. It remind me the story of okeo that you already lighten few weeks ago.

Here are some words which need some clarification/confirmation for the english meaning, I copy/past the vocab from the wiki.

ni. limit, lay, expanse         (limit : got it ; not the others)

ni. lameness

adj. lying, supine

v. to be hard                            (not sure to understand this one on its correct part...  ::) )

ni. useful thing, app

ni. bark                    (dog sound or wood skin???)

vtr to slay, to kill (done by inanimate objects, animals, or otherwise unaware)       (not sur to get the unaware thingy)

vtr to uproot, to scratch

That's it for now.   Translation 30-35% done.

Ermmmhhh I just  fell on a word in the C section of the vocab, on the wiki. First thing I had in mind when reading it was WTF...

choo [t͡ʃoo]
na. pika

... pika... chooo
 :o :o :o :o

Someone with an explanation?

Since it's been in the news during the past few weeks (and it came to me while working on the dictionnary) I thought about movie title :

Shierak athvilajerari :

- Athzalar imesh

- Rhaesh shierakoon elza

- Jedi athessazari

Ingsve : your avatar sentence is the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the news...

Back to work now.

Hahh. That itself is pretty cool. Took me much too long to get it. It's not exactly certain, but almost. 1) we know chek as an adverb, but it's quite likely to work as an adjective too, and if it does, then the comparative declination definately works. 2) even if it does not work as an adjective, adverbs like chek probably have comparative declinations, and it's likely they work the same as adjectives.

Glad to see that I'm good on this one, it was kind of a blind try. Maybe adavran fits better.

Seems the line is aiming for about "Even after our short meeting, you marked my heart with burning metal,"

Yep, the fact that you found it might mean I'm (hopefully) improving. But I apparently need to work more on the beginning.

you changed sholat into past tense?

And yep again, it was an oblivion in the first place.

Some news about the achievement:

10% of the vocab from the wiki is now translated (been quite busy lately).

There are some english words/definition (two for now) that will need some clarifications so the translation to french is 100% correct (me, nit-picky? noooo).

I will post them when I get more to ask  :P
