Some questions...
« on: July 30, 2016, 06:01:04 am »
I started learning Dothraki(yesterday) and  I have some questions:
  • On  wiki I found examples for negative form of present tense. But I also found "vos" statements..Is it like this:
Anhra dothrok.   or Anhra vos dothrak? or maybe Anhra vo(s) dothrok ?
  • Also  I found that if next word starts with non-vowel (constontant I mean) you use vo insted of vos.
  • What vowels are in Dothraki language? (in serbian,vowels are  A E I O U )
  • Is this correct sentances:
    Anhra dothrak,vosma yer dothrae, kifindirgi?
(I ride, but you do not, why?)

Zhey Iqbal, welcome to the forums. Kind of quiet here right now, and other misadventures in life have been keeping me away from a lot of online activities.

But basically, I think you are misunderstanding some of the stuff in the wiki.

First of all, where are you getting anhra? The word for 'I' is anha.
Second, I do not believe there is any place in the Dothraki language where a word ending changes because of the following word. You may be confusing this with some prefixes and suffixes, which change based on the first or last letter(s) of the word. Most tense markers for verbs do this, as well as noun case markers. The prefix for future tense also does this.
Third, you understand correctly that the negative grade of a verb is part of the overall conjugation of the verb. The verb agrees with the negative sense of the sentence. Thus vos dothrok is correct.
Fourth,  you need to use the second person tense marker on the verb that refers to the other person. In this usage, the noun stay in the nominative case.
Fifth, I think your sentence has the pronouns flipped. Thus: Anha dothrak, vosma yer vos dothrok, kifindirgi?

For your vowel question, the Dothraki vowels are A, E I, and O.

I hope this helps!
Don't tell Khal Drogo I am here ;)

1. The correct sentence is "Anha vos dothrok"
2. That can sometimes be correct. Vos is the full, proper way to say "no", but the s is often dropped for convenience. Like saying "nah" in english.
3. the vowels are [a],[e],[ i ], and [ o ]. Unless used after the q. The vowels change to [ɑ],[ɜ],[ɪ], and [ɔ]

And I'll leave the translation explanation to Hrakkar
