Your first sentence is perfect just as it is. No need for the feminine suffix in this case.

For the second sentence, all that needs to change is the adverb placement. Generally, the adverb goes after the verb.

Stories from oral tradition make great translation projects if you're looking for something good.  They generally use words that aren't modern or highly specific to the region of the world they come from, allow for you to really stretch your language knowledge/ability, and already has a bunch of prestige behind it (being an ancient story and all). You could use a story from your tribe if you also want something personable to you.

If you're interested in African stories I suggest The Epic of Sundiata.  It's pretty short as epics go, but I just find the messages and morals inside it incredibly profound.  Here's my favorite quote from the epic as a little teaser:

Amikumu Dothraki will be launched for Android phones sometime this week! The app will include a glossary of the 150 or so new words I constructed for the modern terms of our world, just so you don't get confused by words not found anywhere else (also so that you don't have to dig through this forum to find the definition and can just stay on the app).

I'll admit that my translations may not be 100% perfect, but it is still perfectly legible to any competent Dothraki speaker.  I said originally that I plan to edit everything and check my grammar over in the next month or so, but I think I'm going to push it back until the summer. I'm doing this because I didn't realize that they were ready to get it uploaded right away for one, and second I have school to focus on for the next couple months. This is good, though, because now this means my time opened up to work on my other passion projects for Dothraki, like the Atlas and dictionary updates.  Hopefully Reuben22 will be available to work too and we can make some serious progress on the project.

My plan is to further edit the translations until they're perfect, make a glossary for the app with all the terms made for Amikumu on it, and then get involved in the advertisement of the launch.  I'll keep you guys updated on what happens!

M'ath eyak!

I made a little 20 second diddy of a song written in the style I think the Dothraki would most likely develop in their culture.  It's heavily based in Mongolian Tuvan music, made with Eastern instruments and throat singing (something I spent an afternoon learning how to do so I could record this song), but has influences from Africa and the Steppe as a whole.

The lyrics so far go "Anha vo dothrok ma janoon che oqeti akka", which means "I do not ride with dogs nor next to sheep" and is supposed to be a song sung at night after a successful battle; something to flaunt the fact that you were victorious, but not something to rile you up and get you pumped.

The wiki word list and dictionary only contain official words that have come from David Peterson, or are vetted by him

What would the process be to get him to vet new words into Dothraki proper? A lot of these words would be incredibly helpful to have as official terms before the Dothraki section of the app launches.

BTW, I am trying to find a weekend to update the dictionary

It would be interesting to start an unofficial dictionary with non-vetted words, with the understanding it will never be official or canon.

It would be incredibly helpful in so, so many ways if we did make an Unofficial-Official Fan Dictionary. Teaching concepts, drumming up interest, translating apps and things for videos, etc. would greatly benefit the language.



Being one of the moderators and having control of the Dothraki wiki/ dictionary, could you help me in getting some of these ideas and words off the ground and to the attention of DJP? These ideas could send Dothraki leaps and bounds ahead of where we are now, and I would love to see these ideas come to fruition!

6) I consider myself a pretty active ASOIAF fan. I'm far from the biggest fan, though, and I don't know if I could recount the plot of the novels. I pay attention to the lore most of all, because that's what's most important to the projects I have for Dothraki
7) I have been learning Dothraki for about two years this month
8 ) I would consider myself very advanced. I'd say I'm fluent in reading, near fluent in writing, and if I had someone to speak to I could have a decent conversation. If I were to put myself on a scale from 1-10 (10 as the highest), I'd put myself at an 8 or so.
9) I use the dictionary  made by Lajaki, Ingsve and Krakkar, as well as the wiki.  I originally used the official book from Living Language, but it lacks severely beyond basic grammar. So, I turned to the resources made by the community.
10) Not quite sure, to be honest.  I sort of just stumbled upon it in 10th grade and have been learning it voraciously.  I love how fluid and natural everything feels while not being overburdened with unneeded rules.  I guess, really, I've had nothing but fun with it, so why not?
11) If you mean a culture of people who speak Dothraki on this forum, then not really. For the last two years I've been on these forums, there are maybe three people actively posting here at the same time, and almost none of them stick around for long.
12) I say the most important development remains in vocabulary. I actually just made a long post a few days ago about how far we can and should expand the lexicon. It's vitally important that
we expand the word count so that the language can be applied to more forms of media, reach a wider audience and bring new people onto the forums (and have them stay for a while)
13) Not much has been affected beyond people figuring out how to craft new words so that they can translate things like song lyrics and book passages.
14) A lot of the pioneers for Dothraki (Ingsve, Qvaak, Lajaki, Tetswan, Hrakkar) had the most influence over DJP.  On the Dothraki blog, David would write about and participate with these people and give feedback on what he liked and disliked about what they did with Dothraki. However, DJP hasn't been active in this community for a long while (the last post he made was in February 2015, and influence from the creator has been next to nothing for the last three years
15) Absolutely not. Though 4000 words are capable for successful communication, it's far from being able to communicate in any context outside of basic conversation and things relating to the life of the Dothraki. Today and yesterday I've just been listing off words I've smithed for a language app that have many many words that are necessary to communicate in any kind of adult manner (words like 'experience', 'knot', or 'center').
16) It'll need more speakers to survive as a community, but people will be able to learn it regardless of if there's a community or not.
17) I think if people make a bigger effort to centralize to this forum, engage each other and keep up to date, the community will see growth.
18) I think, if there's active community interaction, we'll see an expansion of vocabulary and more translations and projects being done in the language.  Until we see active engagement from people who have learned the language or want to learn the language, Dothraki won't grow

In the app, you may come across a very difficult sentence that you won't be able to piece together unless you have a very indepth knowledge of Dothraki, so I figured I'd just give the translation here. The sentence in question is "Voji astoy lazem vo tiha ka'shafka chafven", which means "Speaking people cannot be seen while you are invisible", or in the English version from the app "The nearby speakers can't be seen while you are set to invisible.  It's probably the most beautiful sentence I've had the pleasure of translating so far, and I'd hate to see it go unnoticed or avoided by new speakers.
