Translating Houses' words
« on: October 23, 2012, 01:28:19 am »
Hello!
To practice, I have tried to translate the motto of some Houses.
Are they correct?

Stark: Aheske jada
Greyjoy: Kisha vos velaineroki
Tully: Khasar, Atthar, Chomokh (not found a real word for "family")
Lannister: Chari anna zorat
Targaryen: Vorsa ma quoy
Tyrell: Hajolok

I lack of vocabulary for the moment to translate others.

Welcome.

Here is a blog post on David Petersons blog about the House motto's

http://www.dothraki.com/2011/10/whats-said-is-said/

You did in fact get some of them right. Stark, Greyjoy and Lannister are correct (as how David imagined them). The Targaryen is almost correct. It should be Vorsa ma Qoy. I'm not sure why you snuck a /u/ in there.

Davids preferred translation of the Tyrell motto is simply Hajolat. We don't have a translation for the Tully words yet I think.

The /u/ in quoy might simply be from the habit of a /u/ always following /q/ in English. It takes some getting used to.
