It's been a looong time since I logged in!
First of all : I apologise, deeply, for this absence. I had the french dictionnary at charge, and never found time to spare for it for the last 3 years. Quite a lot of change in my life, hard to conceal them with my obligations here.
There is no word weither in english, neither french, nor dothraki, to express the apology I want to make.
BUT!
Now I'm back in the arena, so, who can tell me how things are now? Did someone took the french dictionary in charge?
It's been a looong time since I logged in!

« on: June 30, 2015, 06:30:31 am »Maybe "Can't hold it back" would need some more clever translation than Laz vo qorok mae memras, since it's a bit uncomfortably similar to "couldn't hold it in", Laz vo qoro mae memras.
It does not shock me, word similarities are already used in the french translation of the song. Most evident proof : Let it go, let it go is libérée, délivrée (released, liberated).
And now I have a manly Khal Drogo, in a beautiful blue shiny dress, singing the words of Qvaak. I am strangely both amazed, and scared of it...

good luck with your project. Some of us have translated some songs already, one from Queen, made as a translation test by Ingsve, if I recall correctly.
I tried to translate Nothing else matters, with many help from other Dothraki speackers here, including some tips from DJP (also tried some home made dothraki poetry).
I don't think I ever posted the results as I lost all data when my *hum* beloved smartphone (where I dumbfully kept everything without outside copy...) crashed and stopped working. Would be fun to get all those back, yet.
Anyway, do not seek for exact word-by-word translation. :-)

Sorry to undig this post.
I just saw an article about the Dothraki language learning book/CD in a local news paper (20minutes) which made me wonder : will there be a french version of it (or maybe does it already exist)?
And more precisely, will it have an impact on our different unofficial dictionnaries (french, spanish,...)? to be honnest I am a bit afraid of what could happend to the translation work I did with your help.
Does anyone have more informations? (I am sorry if there already was a post about it, I searched and did not find one...)

I've been thinking about translating some latin sentences, and since I'm not familiar with grammar (and maybe more) in dothraki I seek for thy help...
Carpe diem, quam minimum credula posteros (unfortunatly known by today's young people as yolo... )
Seize the days, and trust a little in the future
I went with
Collect the day, and have few hope for tomorrow
Yanqo(s) assekhaan, vosma ray athzalar silokhaan zolle. (not sur weither to use formal imperative or not)

According to what I read on the wiki, contemporary dothraki could go for k'atfirezari (elided version of ki + noun fire with circumfix ath__ar in genitive declinasion) but it targets manner adverbs, and I can't tell for sure if around is a manner adverb.
The non-contemporary, if I understood right (and if it was used) would be firre.
